Frequently Asked Questiones

What is Web Hosting

Web hosting is a service that provide space and computing for a website on a server which is connected to the internet. Once the required files, databases and applications for a website is made available on the internet server, web visitors can access it by typing in the web address or domain name in their web browser. In response to the established connection the web server sends the required files to display the page of the website to the visitor’s web browser.

What is shared web hosting?

One Internet server is shared among more than one website owners in a shared hosting environment. This includes sharing the physical server and the software applications within the server. Shared hosting is economical and affordable because valuable resources and the cost to operate the server is shared between the website owners.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is the web address or the actual name of a website. Every single website has a domain name and it can be purchased through a domain name registrar.

Website addresses are actually IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, which is a series of 4 to 12 numbers (doted decimal). For example, IP addresses for Microsoft and Google can be 40.76.4.15 and 216.239.32.117 respectively. But IP addresses are hard to remember, that’s why easy to remember domain names are used instead.

Domain Name Server (DNS).

DNS is a kind of directory services of IP addresses, which is responsible for IP address to domain mappings. A classic example of DNS system is the conventional phonebook directory, where phone number to street address is mapped. So first you need to find the street address of any company to visit them physically.

Similarly, in an Internet browser, when you type in www.yourdomain.com, the browser first needs to find the IP address of www.yourdomain.com. The browser contacts a DNS server to query the IP address or location of the server where the webpages are stored. Then only it can fetch and display the web page of www.yourdomain.com on the screen.

What is SSL Security?

Secure Sockets Layer or SSL is a cryptographic protocol commonly used to secure server to browser communication or transactions. When SSL is used all communication between a browser and the web server is encrypted and thus secured. The main benefit of using SSL is securing customer’s credit card number or password when doing transactions in an online store or online banking application.

What you need to protected your website from hackers?

Millions of small business websites are being prodded and probed, on a daily basis, by automated hacker tools looking for unsecured websites they can hijack. Our hosting service provide SiteLock Security, which looks for vulnerabilities and plug them before hackers find them with their automated sniffers. If your security holes are patched in time and protected by a web application firewall your site will be invisible to hacker’s sniffing tools and they won’t be any harmful to your website.

Keep your site backup current and up to date.

You can – and should! – back up your website regularly. From the control panel, there should be a Backup function, and with one click, you can save all of your files, if they are under 500 MB. If they total more than that, you will need to save your databases in partitions. To back up your website, is also as simple as through FTP simply dragging your PUBLIC.html folder over to your computer and copying the files in that way. You will not back up your email accounts like that, though. If you have doubts about your web host’s security, you can set up an email forwarder and have everything duplicated in an online email service like gMail or an offline one like Outlook.

How to obtain a dedicated email account?

With a purchase of hosting services you receive dedicated email accounts for any domain hosted on that account. Our Basic, Plus, and Business packages include 5, 15, and unlimited email accounts respectfully. Email accounts can be created, change their passwords, set up email forwarders, and all other management be done from the control panel. You can also set up an email account to send from a web-based email service like gMail or an offline service like Outlook.

How much disk space do you need?

Disk space refers to the total space available for a user to store files on at any time. Files may be any type – HTML, images, videos – and at any single given time, the total file size may not exceed the disk space. How much disk space you need is dependent on what type of media and interactions you’ll be hosting through your site. Your email account’s storage is also counted in disk space, so if you have large files that will sit in the account, that will boost your disk space needs. Remember that although you might not need much space now, you want wiggle room to expand and grow in the future, without switching hosts.

How much bandwidth do you need?

Bandwidth is the amount of data that is accessed while viewing a website. Every time a user views a website, data is transferred, and the measurement of that transfer is bandwidth. In general, images, audio files and video files are higher in bandwidth than text. That means that if you have a more burdensome website in terms of bandwidth – if you have lots of video or streaming audio, for example – you have a higher bandwidth requirement than someone with a simple text-only website, or someone with only a few low-resolution images. Some web hosts offer unlimited bandwidth, and some place a cap on it.
